As I get ready to head home to California for the holidays, I feel it's necessary to say a few words about these past few months. My new teaching job at Rivers has been wonderful. Teaching in the Music Box program has presented unique challenges. If you had asked me 5 years ago about how I would approach teaching piano students ages 4 to 6, I would have not been able to answer the question at all! Through experimentation, improvisation and a will to always stay curious and meet the next challenge, I must say that I have gained a lot. Each Saturday presents a new adventure and I look forward to them more every week.
In Lexington, I feel like we have really started to build a foundation. Students have developed through the ABRSM and Royal Conservatory Programs, through learning different styles of music or playing duets. Our final recital this Saturday is very exciting because it represents a culmination of the work that has been done these past three months. I am very lucky to work with respectful students and parents.
